Anyone tried using a standard inkjet printer to printing onto non-porous
surfaces like metal or plastic sheet? Is there any way to get the ink to dry
before it hits the rollers?

I know you can print onto OHP film but I'd really like to try printing onto
something thicker like a instrument panel.

I've seen full-size paint sprayers built to do dot-matrix printing on
entire walls, so I'm sure there are industrial versions that will do
whatever you want.

let us google ...

* substrates up to 3" thick
* "paper" up to 138" wide

It's still not the wall-mount unit I've seen, but it's kewl enuf!

If you have a straight through paper path, you can do it if you set the
printer output for tranparencies.

Printing on metal

I am currently buying a new UV flatbed printer that will capable of printing onto a wide range of materials including glass printing, metal printing and wood printing. Sizes can be anything up to 8ft x 4ft and 50mm thick. We will print using CMYK and white inks at photo quality!!

The company is a new one www.theuvprintingcompany.co.uk. (as is the website). I have been in the print industry for years now but this is an exciting new machine for us.

Please e mail me if you have any questions.

Cheers. Ashley.
