Dave

I have printers setup as shared on a Windows 2000 server.
Everything works great on 2000, and XP machines. But
Windows 98 machines on the network see some only 8 of 32
printers. For example I have 3 plotters that are setup
and configured exactly the same, but Windows 98 only sees
1 of them. I tried entering the \\server\printername
manually, but it thinks that the printer is off-line and
will not print to it.

Have you seen anything like this? Any solutions?

Glad you're up and going.
Got It!

The SHARE name must be less than 12 characters. MS
Article 160843 describes this. Seems odd that when you
enter a share name with a space the system warns you that
DOS users will not be able to use the printer, but NO
warning about Win98 clients not being able to see shares
with longer than 12 characters! Shame on you Microsoft! :P

Thanks for the tip Bob I.

I'm having the same problem but my printer share name is less than 12
characters. It keeps asking me for a password for the printer share but
there is no password assigned on the win2k machine. My win98 machine when I
try to connect asks for a password. Any suggestions?
