I'm thinking in buying the Epson R200 or R300. Both have the ability to

-Must they be any special CDs to be printed?
-Can I put on a CD one of those sticky paper CD tags and then print the tag?

Thanks,

I just got an R300, but havent bought any printable cd or dvd media yet
to try it, but your idea about just putting a blank label on to a normal
cd intrigues me!, can't see as to why that wouldnt work, anyone else
tried this?

But then again, what's the advantage of this over just printing the
label then sticking it on....

You don't have to align it on a A4 sheet (where normally there are 2 CD
labels), i.e., you don't risk it to pront outside the label. That's why I
think I would stick it to the CD first and then print on the CD. But I
wonder if that's ok?

Thx for answering me,
TJ
I am sure it would work fine, I cant see why not, I am going to try it
when I get home, but I think I used my last cd label...

If you try it let us know here how it worked!

If you are doing that why bother buying a printer that can print on CD's?

The beauty of an inkjet printable CD is that you don't have to fool around
with a label. You don't have to worry about putting it on correctly or that
it might peel off inside your CD player.

The cost of an inkjet printable CD is not much more than a regular one and
it takes a lot less time and effort.

Imagine I have dozens of non-printable CDs (burned a long time ago), and I
want them to look nice! That's why I was talking about printing CD labels,
ok?

TJ

You can do that now by just printing the label. Why buy a new printer to do
something you can do with your old printer?

Yes you can do just what you propose. I've done the same thing for the same
reasons using my Canon i865 printer. Another good reason is if you happen
to have a lot of non-printable CD's still unused. Your other comment about
the difficulty in printing accurately to the label when still on the sheet
is from my experience also quite valid. Even after using the alignment
program for my labels they still didn't print centrally every time. I
suspect slippage. Stick the label on the disk then print to the disk like
it's a printable. It's worked every time for me.

Yes, they must be inkjet printable CDs. Unless I'm mistaken, the R200
and R300 printers are inkjets, the ink won't stick to bare lacquer.

Yes, I suppose you could put one of those sticky paper CD tags on the
CD and then print, but there are some problems with some types of
stick on CD labels. Further, if you're just going to press on a
label, there's really no point in paying the added expense to buy a CD
printer. Those stick-on labels can be printed out on any inkjet
printer.

BarryAnd, if you put one of those CDs in a slot load CD player, don’t be surprised
if you can’t remove it and are faced with some high repair costs. My neighbor
with a slot load CD player in his Ford Mustang found out the hard way when his
radio had to be dismantled and reassembled to get at the CD.

Good point! I don't have one, but I'll watch out for that one!
