This is a re-post with more explanation...

All of a sudden, nothing is printing on my HP Laserjet 6P. It has worked
fine for over a year..and just last week it quit. The document goes into
the print queue, but nothing ever seems to make it to the printer. I have
removed and re-added it, as well as changed the cable and tried another 6P.
I moved the printer and cable to another computer with a 6P and it works
fine. The printer test if run by pressing the buttons combo on the printer.

I have tried printing directly to printer as well as unchecked
bidirectional. These wouldn't be the problem anyway since it worked for a
long time.

So I have ruled out the printer and cable....what else could be causing it?
The computer clearly sees it when adding it (it detects the type and port,
LPT1).

When I hit print, the doc just goes to the queue and sits...no errors come
up at all. It is a Win2000 Dell PC. It has to be local, as I get the same
thing when sharing it and printing to it as a network printer.

Parrallel port slightly bad?? I wouldn't think it would detect and install
printer if that were the case. I am lost!!

Since you do not get any error and the job sits there, this indicates a
scheduling problem. Either the Port is not available or the Print Queue is
set only at specific times (doubtful).

If you use the Add Printer Wizard to add a printer manually, is LPT1 in the
list of Ports? If it is not, then something nuked the entry in the registry
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Ports\LPT1:

You can add this if it is gone StringValue (reg_sz) LPT1:
then stop and start the spooler service.

Check the Printer Properties /Advanced tab and verify the printer
availability is not restricted.

If nothing pans out there, delete any pending print jobs, the printer, and
the driver

Open a CMD window
Start / Run / cmd

This is a virtual dos window

find a text file or create one then copy this file to the printer
copy filename.txt prn
or
copy filename.txt LPT1:
or
dir > LPT1:

If you get output it's a driver or spooler issue. If no output it's
something to do with connectivity
