printing issue

Can anybody help with this...if i configure a printer in xp pro or 2k pro it prints fine...i am happy with that
I also have a third party supplied software that needs to print, with this software all u need to do is tell it which port to print to...the problem is if a windows printer is configured on the same port it will not print, if I delete the windows printer then the other software can print to that port so the port must get locked in some way when a printer is configure
I have also tested this on XP Home and this does not happen ,I can print to the same port as the windows printer is configured on, and this is the same for win95 and 9
Can anybody explain and even better if I can disable this in XP Pro to allow the port to be accessed by windows printing and the third party softwar
 
Try configuring the print queue to Print directly to the printer.
