Sorry for another printer question. We are using a robust 2000 TS to run
one application. It is a quad 2.8 zeon with 4gb RAM. Up to 120 users are
logged on at any one time. Using latest RDP client. Redirecting local and
networked printers. With this we sometimes get up to 180+ printers
installed. Printers are constantly coming and going. Numerous times a day
the spooler will die and restart itself. Every few days it will lockup and
require a reboot. The server is rebbot every night. I suspect the issue is
with all the printers installed. Is there a way to limit the clients
redirected printers to just there default? Thanks in advance.

Most likely your problem is due to the prior installation of 3rd party print drivers that were installed to support new printers. This is famous for doing what you're describing, or even worse like BSOD the server. Here's a page that described how to install, remove & troubleshoot printers on TS.

Patrick, I have tried most of the things in that article. My problem is
terrible today. Twice I have had to reboot the server. It starts out with
a 7011 " Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for a transaction response
from the Spooler service. Once I was able to restart the spooler service to
fix the problem but it came back very soon. Any ideas on this would very
helpful. By the way, how do you confirm if a driver is MS or third party??

Right-click the driver - properties - company
As Patrick stated, uninstalling all 3th party drivers is the only
cure for your situation.

Also make sure users do not have the sufficient rights to add printer drivers. There are some scripts on my site, courtesy of Citrix, for deleting 3rd party print drivers

Scott, we face the same problem here. I have been trying to find out a
way to map ONLY the default printer, but nobody seems to know : (

In your situation, you may want to try this 3rd party solution:

(since it appears that Microsoft is incapable of dealing with this
very crucial issue)

Thanks all for your help. My lockup and service restarts have disappeared
since I cleaned up the drives two days ago. This brings to the fore front
another issue. On a few of our systems the redirected printers take a long
time to show up or not at all. Since I have been watching it real close it
appears to be on our 2000 Pro systems and not XP. Also it may be only with
HP4000 printers. I think I get a event 1106 when it happens but not sure
yet. The client continues to log off and on until it shows up.

Again, thanks for your help!!

Update on this issue. It is happening on XP Pro systems also. What seems
to work to get them printing again is to stop/start the clients spooler
prior to logon to the TS
