All of a sudden, nothing is printing on my HP Laserjet 5P. It has worked
fine for over a year..and just last week it quit. The document goes into
the print queue, but nothing ever seems to make it to the printer. I have
removed and re-added it, as well as changed the cable and tried another 5P.
So I have ruled out the printer and cable....what else could be causing it?
The computer clearly sees it when adding it (it detects the type and port,
LPT1).

When I hit print, the doc just goes to the queue and sits...no errors come
up at all.

Thanks

The printer can do a self test?
Try removing the spooler in the printer properties. [rt click in "printers"
on LJ 5P]

All I can think is maybe the parallel port is bad...although odd it can
still detect the printer. If I carry the printer and cable to another PC,
it's fine...and all settings are the same on the other PC.

You might want to telnet into the jet direct card and turn
off banner printing. Sometimes that does it for me. The
command at the prompt is: banner: 0 <ENTER> (make sure to
include the ":" )

If that doesn't work, you can try reconfiguring the
JetDirect. Just reset it to factory defaults and
reconfigure.
