printing giberish to POS printer

I have a new home XP system and have a citizen POS
printer that is printing symbols and dropped letters. my
POS vendor suggests using the generic driver. this works
on one of my systems but not the other. Have tried
dumping mem, re-installing, etc. is there an upgraded
driver.
