I cannot print anything from lpt1. If i hook the
computer up via USB it will print fine. It is as if the
port has a problem, but in device manager it shows no
problems. Have reloaded all the drivers for the printer
but it still does not work. Have also tried removing and
reinstalling the port but that doesn't help either. Does
anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried changing the LPT cable?

I would personally keep the printer on USB, it's a much better form of
communication than an old legacy connection.

I have tried changing the cable and I cannot hook the
printer I want to use up via USB because it does not have
that option (A different printer works via USB). The
printer works if I hook it up to another computer, so it
is not the printer either. I am stumped.

How about getting a USB PCI card?

One last try.... in the Device Manager under the LPT settings.... ensure
that Enable Legacy for Plug and Play Devices is checked.
