I tried to let to computer automatically load my printer, but it is not
working. How do I delete the printers so I can try to install from the CD?
I tried to intall from the CD, but it won't let me. The message tells me to
do it from add printer file, but that's not working. The printer is not
reconized by the computer. I put the USB cable in different ports, and still
nothing. Can you please help me figure this out?

That printer is not supported in VISTA according to the HP website.

What version of VISTA are you using? Did it come installed on the PC
you are now using?

The only thing you can try is installing the XP software:

hp business inkjet 1100 series full printing system PCL3 driver 1.2
28 Jan 2004 20.1

is the latest on the HP website and using Compatibility mode and Run as
Administrator.

How is your printer connected to the PC? Parallel cable, USB cable or
Network? We must know this from you.

To remove what you have so far unplug the printer and its cable from
the PC. Go to Control Panel / Printers and simply delete any icons
there for the printer. Go to Control Panel / Remove Programs and
uninstall any HP software that may be listed there and then reboot the
computer.

Find the file that starts installing the printer software -- if you
download then that file; if you are going to try the CD, hold the CTRL
key down when you insert the CD and keep it down until the CD stops
whirring.

Open Windows Explorer or My Computer and scan the list of files for the
one that starts the installation procedure -- perhaps setup.exe or
autorun.exe (you have to have Explorer set to see file extensions).
Right mouse click on this file and select Properties / Comptibility TAB
and set that to XP with SP2 and also check [x] Run as Administrator and
OK your way out.

YOU MUST NOT HAVE THE CABLE CONNECTED until either the installation
procedure tell you to or until you get to [Finish] -- check your setup
instructions which are also on line at HP.

When the software is installed remove the CD from the drive, plug in
the cable and reboot the computer unless you are told sooner to plug it
in.

Windows should then find the computer and use the new software, which
since the printer is not supported in VISTA means there is not one "out
of the box".
