Printing from Dos app

I have a Dos program that only prints to a parallel port
but have an USB printer. I am on XP and have heard that
you can 'map' a parallel port to a USB port - but I can't
figure out how. Any thoughts?

I have a USB-only printer and am running XP Home.

After enabling printer-pooling from the Ports tab inside Printer
Properties and checking LPT1 to add it to the ports my printer can print
to, I can now print from DOS programs that print to LPT1 (I haven't
tried printing from a DOS box).
