I am printing from wireless laptop, XP client, to Host 98 Desktop with HP7150 attached to it. From the laptop I see the printer, i can access the properties and print test page but very slow to get to this point, 5 mins or so, go to a word file and try to print, freezes pc, same thing from internet. what port should the host pc be on? it's on dot4 port setting, should it be com or lpt1? or...?

In general, using the HP ink jet type printers over the network can be
difficult. HP markets them as personal printers and doesn't build the
drivers etc. for network printing, which is nuisance. However, in most
cases, they can be used over the network with some work. I don't have an
HP 7150 to experiment with, but based on what works for other HP ink jet
type printers, try this:

1. go to the HP web site http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html,
key 7150 printer and press Enter
2. click setup and install
3. under "FAQs for this task", click Installing the Printer Driver Versions
4.0, 4.1 and 4.2 and follow the directions there.

Note that the instructions for downloading the required drivers (steps 1
through 6) don't match HP's current web site. Instead:

a. go to http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html
b. key 7150 printer and press Enter
c. click software & driver downloads

You want to download:
for Windows XP
- HP Photosmart printer software/driver
for Windows 98
- HP Photosmart printer software/driver

Install the new driver on the Windows 98 computer first.

On the Windows XP computer, follow the instructions at

I try and go to "browse for a printer", i see my desktop pc but it does not see the printer. I know i have printed using the wirless, so i know it works, hat just seems to be a hangup somewhere over the network

On the Win98 computer open the Sharing properties of the printer. Make sure
it is actually shared and make a note of the Share Name (not the Printer
Name). The Share Name should not have any spaces or special characters in
the name.

On the XP laptop, use the Share Name in the Port Name
(\\computername\sharename).
