Apologies if this is not the right forum - please put me right if that is
the case!

I am using Office 97, and I want to be able to print selected addresses
(which I am in the proces of setting up in my Outlook personal address
book). I hvae lloked at Help, and I think that I have to use Mail merge in
Word, but for the life of me, I cannot get this to work. Essentially, a
sub-set of people will have addresses, and I will want to print a sub-set of
those. The latter sub-set will vary - e.g. Christmas cards and holiday post
cards. So, each person, with an address, will need to have 0, 1 or 2 flags
set depending on whether they ar to get a Christmas card and/or a holiday
post card.

I used to be able to do this with Lotus organiser and find it hard to
understand why it is so difficult in Microsoft.

Anyway, and help would be greatlt appreciated.

In a version that old, your only option will be to create a separate
Contacts Subfolder to use as the data source for the merge from Word.

Use categories to flag your contacts. You can assign as many categories as you
like to an item.

Once you have assigned the categories, you can create a filter (View|Filter)
and select the category you want to work with.

Using the filtered group in a mail merge requires an intermediate step in
Outlook 97. See this Knowledge Base article for details --
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=160521 I prefer the second option (create a
temporary folder for the group, enable it as an address book and use that for
the merge job).

Well Outlook 97 was the first attempt. The merge part is easier with later
versions.

The best place for this question would actually be
microsoft.public.outlook.contacts so if you have more questions along these
lines, post them there.
