This NG has been an incredible resource for me. Thanks to all, especially
the MVPs.

Question: I'm using PPT2003. I have set up some presentations using one of
the pre-installed design templates (the copper colored one with the scales
of justice, not that it matters). I would like to be able to print three-up
handouts without having the scales of justice graphic print. Is there a way
to do this? I know I can save the presentation under a different file name,
and change the background of the master slide, but I'd rather find a more
elegant solution.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Do you want to print them on a color printer or b/w? In b/w or greyscale
mode the background will not print by default.

If you want to retain the color of all other objects, you can use the
multiple master ability of PPT 2003: go to "View - Master - Slide Master",
copy the master, in this copy set background color to white and close the
Master View. Before printing apply this white master to all slides, after
printing change back to the copper colored one.

Kind regards,
Ute

Stever,

Color or Black and White?

If it's black and white

View
Master
Slide Master

Right click the scales
Choose "B&W"
Then "dont show"

You will have to repeat this for the title master and the bullet list master

TAJ:

Thanks for the reply. But, when I right click the scales, there is no
option to "choose B&W". Am I missing something?

Thanks,
S.

Ute:

Thanks for replying. The backgrounds do print, at least on my set-up.
However, the multiple master thing, although a little more hassle, worked
like a charm. Thanks!

You have to be in B/W View in order to be able to choose B/W settings
when you right-click objects. So, add View/Black and White to TAJ's
steps below.

Hello Steve,

PowerPoint provides the powerful option to control how any selectable
object (or background) will print when using either the Grayscale or Black
and White print options. Even though feature has been essentially unchanged
since PowerPoint 97 some customers have difficulty discovering this
capability and how to use it (perhaps because it requires you to be in
Grayscale or Black and White view in PowerPoint).

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have some suggestions for how
to make this capability more discoverable and useful (perhaps by allowing
adjustments to how things print while in Print Preview mode?), don't forget
to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
