Printing a CD with PIXMA 4000

I'm trying to print onto a printable CD directly with the Canon PIXMA
4000. The software that came with the printer is not very impressive, so I
decided to try Nero Cover Designer.

Now I already found the right settings so it would actually *use* the CD
tray. I just have some troubles aligning the printed image... right now it
prints the bottom part of the image on the top of the CD face. So most of
the CD face is still blank, there's just a partial image (in excellent
quality btw!)...

Can anyone describe what they did to print onto a CD directly with Cover
Designer?

A lot of try-and-see printing. Get some old coasters (normal CDR's), select
blank label, and draw only one black circle in very outer egde of CDR. Then
insert that coaster and print This black circle will be seen on normal
surface CDR's, too. So, you'll be able to see where this circle is printed
and align it accordingly - for this x any y point must be altered.

That's an excellent idea, I'll do that! Thanks...

Good idea right enough. But you only need **one** CDR.

Just wipe the line off each time and re-insert .....

Now you got me...

To be honest, i don't remember...But, if i recall right, i made a new
template and then adjust it. pre-made ones sometimes doesn't have the
possibility to adjust them...

The real point of not-knowing is that i print so little CDR's that original
software is quite good for me...i just tried surething because i didn't know
that original one can print to inner circle. But after i found out that it
can, i removed surething...

But, all templates must have measures for template paper and position where
CDR is located. So, either move CDR or resize template paper...
IF you won't find it, maybe i can install it again and find it...

Sooooo,

i installed this damn thing...
if i look quickly, the best way is to start template creation wizard, enter
all needed data and go. For correcting x and y open page setup and correct
start position.
I hope this helps...

Where are you guys getting the CD printing attachment or tray, whatever it
is. ??

Canon USA doesn't seem to know they exist.

I am In New Zealand and I don't know where Sleeper Man is...
Here the Pixma Range come with a CD Tray that you insert and it prints the
most awesome looking Cds..and DVDs..
This Spec for some reason though is not available in the States..Don't ask
me why??maybe its Sony using their Muscle and fearing these Pixmas are just
TOO GOOD at labeling DVDs and CD,s..

Don't think it's down to Sony, after all Epson have CD printing in the
R300. Canon USA either can't or don't want to license the idea off the
patent holder for the US region.

For completeness, I'll describe the steps I performed to get it working.
It's a shame I never paid attention to these paper templates... thanks
again!

Create the new template:

1) In Nero Cover Designer goto File > Paper Stocks
2) In the list select 'User-defined Stocks' and press the 'Add Stock'
button
3) Give the new stock a nice name, eg. "CD-Tray PIXMA 4000"
4) Set width = 131.0mm, height = 238.7mm (got these from Printer
Preferences dialog)
5) Press the 'Add Item' button and select 'Label'
6) Set outer radius = 59.0mm, inner radius = 22.0mm (or 11.0mm for a small
hole in the middle)
7) Set position X = 6.5mm, Y = 87.0mm

Print onto disc:

1) In Nero Cover Designer goto File > New and select any disc template
(this is not the one created above)
2) Select the tab "Disk 1"
3) Choose your freshly created paper format from the drop-down box on top
4) Now paint your cover...
5) Goto File > Print
6) On tab 'Elements' unselect the things you don't want (is there a way to
remove or disable these in the disc template?)
7) On tab 'General' press the 'Setup' button, and choose PIXMA 4000
'Properties'
8) On tab 'Main', set Media type to "Printable disc (recommended)" (this
will also select "Disc tray" as paper source)
9) On tab 'Page Setup', set Page size to "CD-R tray B"
10) OK, OK, OK :)

I've said it before and will again......F*** Sony. Grrrrrrrrrr

This is an awesome printer, disc printing would make it damn near perfect.
Didn't Canon make CDR attachments for another printer? Maybe they will
introduce it in the USA eventually. Or one of you Aussies could offer to
start importing them to the USA . ;-)

OK, I contacted customer service at Canon USA, and here's the non-response I
got:

Thank you for your inquiry.

Globally, Canon is comprised of many different sales divisions. Each
sales division makes their own business decisions as to the products and
features they feel will help them achieve their goals and best suit
their market. Canon USA has made the decision not to include the CDR/DVD
printing feature on consumer printers sold in this market.

Thank you for contacting Canon.

Sincerely,

It's a global market. Buy one from a country which *does* sell what you
want.
