I have a farm of Windows 2000 servers running Citrix Presentation Server 4.0
with hotfix rollup 3. Printers are set up as local printers on a Windows
2000 print server printing to Standard TCP/IP ports. These are shared and
mapped by Citrix policies. All servers run Windows 2000 service pack 4 and
post sp4 rollup.
The printers are mainly Brother models using the WHQL certified generic
Brother PCL5e driver, with a few HP printers using the Laserjet 4 driver.
Randomly a printer will stop being mapped. The following event is logged in
the application log on the Citrix server:
Event 1114, source MetaframeEvents
Could not add printer connection to printer (\\SERVER\PRINTER), for user
(USER). Error condition is: (The filename, directory name, or volume label
syntax is incorrect.).
If I try to map it manually as a non admin user I get an error indicating I
do not have sufficient permissions, even though the driver is installed and
other printers of the same type are working fine.
I have found that if I stop sharing the printer on the print server, then
reshare it, it starts working again. It looks like it is possibly some issue
with the server service on that server, but nothing is being logged.
Anyone else seen this or have any ideas?
