I had two printers installed on the computer. In the last
couple of days this has happened twice. I try to print
something and the printer has an error. When I delete the
print job and try again, my printers have completely
disappeared from the printers area.
When I click to add the printer again, I get this
message "Printer operation cannot continue due to lack of
resources. The print subsystem is unavailable."
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it. I
was somehow able to add the printers again but then it
happens again, but not until I have a print error.
Please help!

I'm having the same problem using Win2K pro. Searching
microsoft knowledge base I came up with the following link:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;312052#appliesto

It seems to be the exact problem, but for me it opens up a
bigger can of worms - regidit. I have minimal experience
with the beast and reading this message and more info on
regedit I'm becoming more confused.

The instructions call for exporting specific keys and
deleting specific entries (exported files can be edeited
with any text editor). Seems simple but:

why export? to me it implies that one should export the
key, make the changes, and then (in order to make the
chanes effective) the file would have to be imported.
However, there is no mention of importing anything. Was
the export just a means of backup just in case (backup
being a major first step in using regedit and never being
mentioned in the instructions).

Also, literature indicates that one should use regit32 in
the case of Win2k, so why does the article say to use
regit? Is it because regit32 doesn't contain the
export/import functions?.

If anyone could supply some helpful do's and don't in
regard to implementing the steps outlined in the article
it would be a great help.

Did you find any information on this subject. This has
just happened to me and it all started after I tried to
install McAfee internet suite 6.0 virus program. It
appears this McAfee 6.0 is not working with Windows 2000
prof with NT Technoology. I was given directions by
mcafee to remove the suite and then reinstall the regular
McAfee virus scan, but it is not loading components for
the active shield. McAfee says it is Microsofts problem
or Dell (my computer). I can not add my printers at all.

Thanks.
