Printers are not showing up in Active Directory?

We have a Windows 2000 Active Directory network. I am the system
administrator, and I've not had a lot of training at it (one class in AD).

When it comes to putting printers onto the network what we typically do is
put a printer onto some PC, or server, and then share it on the network,
listing it in Active Directory. For some reason, this doesn't seem to be
happening like it used to. For example, I've got an HP LaserJet III on a
Windows 2000 Professional machine, which is shared out to the network and
listed in AD, but I am not able to find it if I try to assign a network
printer (because I cannot find it) to an Windows XP Professional machine
also on the network. Why is that?

Is said "print server" joined to the domain?

Normal practice is to put all servers on a Print server which is a member
server

Yes, the "print server" is joined to the domain.

We haven't followed normal practice, as none of the printers are on a member
server.
