Printer was printing just fine. All of sudden, computer doesn't recognize
printer. Printer prints test page just fine. Took usb cable to best buy -
worked fine on another computer. My fuji camera gets recognized by all four
usb ports. I even updated the usb drivers. The Lexmark, All In One X1150
software will not install until the printer is recognized by the computer.
On bootup I'm getting an MPU-401(Roland Midi built-in) and gameport disabled
message. The system sound works fine though. Any solutions?

TIA, Kevin

What has changed since printer last worked properly? Isolating
this can be most important, eliminating need to try many things.

Driver changes? Service packs? New USB devices?

How can printer print test page fine?
Do you mean that it's printing test page using it's own controls
or from the computer?

Check bios setup for a USB Legacy setting, it can be helpful
particularly on older motherboards.

Check your motherboard manual for a 5VSB/5V USB jumper. Often
it's referenced as a way to turn on system with a USB mouse or
keyboard. Set that to 5V, not 5VSB, which of course means you
can't turn on system with USB devices but it is one potential
problem. If that solves problem you might have a power supply
with insufficient 5VSB capacity, and/or that circuit is failing
in power supply. A multimeter reading of the voltage on power
supply might also be telling, but it's a waste of time if printer
still doesn't work from 5V instead of 5VSB. If your system
doesn't even have the jumper or bios setting for this then ignore
it, that USB port should be running from 5V (not 5VSB) already.
Note that systems with multiple USB ports may have multiple
jumpers, one per port, so appropriate jumper needs set per that
port.

Disconnect all other USB devices. With system running, unplug
USB printer, wait a couple seconds and plug into different USB
port. See what computer detects. Check device manager for
listings of device. If printer shows up as something else, or if
_seemingly related_ entries show problems, address that problem
and/or delete the entry.

You did not mention what operating system, but there are many
guides to usb troubleshooting on the 'net. For example,
