Network printer was removed from office. Access (2002)
Reports formerly using this printer cannot be opened any
longer (not preview, not print, not design, not page
setup) because "There was a problem retrieving printer
information for this object". How to assign new printer to
these reports ?

Lieven:

Access should prompt you to select to use the default printer when the
printer not available message box appears. Select Yes.

If you are not prompted to select the default printer, then your solution is
to reinstall the driver for the expected printer on the machine where it was
originally, and then re-set up the network printer as if it existed. Using
File -> Page Set Up, on the Page tab, set all reports to use the default
printer.

Access does not prompt for the default printer.

MDB is still on original machine but printer and server
were removed. I have discovered original printer-name by
looking into binary display of MDB into which I exported
the report : \\BRUNTRS1\BR21.

I have tried to 'Add Printer' \\BRUNTRS1\BR21 but get
error message printer doesn't exist. Server \\BRUNTRS1 was
removed and will not be reinstalled.

Have I lost this report entirely ?

Thanks for any help - Lieven.

Lieven:

Surprised you don't get prompted for the default printer.

You can't add a network printer for a compter that doesn't exist. You can
have an administrator temporarily set up a computer with that server name
(it can be a workstation, simply rename it for a moment to the Bruntrs1
computer name option in the System control panel) add the driver for the
type of printer you were using, and share that printer (even though its not
connected,) as BR21.

Then again reset the reports to use the default printer.
