I was helping someone set up a lexmark z25-z35 printer last night on a
laptop with Windows 2000. The drivers install correctly and the printer
shows up under Printers and Faxes, but when we try to print a test page, it
says that this printer must be connected to a usb port. It is connected and
in the printer's properties it shows that the port is usb. I am assuming
that the problem is either that there's something wrong with the usb port or
maybe the printer cable even though it's a new one.

Also, someone mentioned to me that yo may have to set the port to usb in the
bios. Is this correct?

Any suggestions?

I had a similiar problem with an HP all in one printer.
It turned out that there was a port conlict on LPT1. The
port was pointing to a network printer. The HP
installation software was not able to overwrite the
assignment. When I cleared the port and set up the priter
again everything worked fine. Why this made a difference
I don't know, but I am happy with the results. Also they
recommended that I change the LPT1 port to ECP. I didn't
but it's still working.

Hope this helped.

Under the printer's properties, on the Ports tab, there is a USB option
which we selected. Do you think changing to LPT1 would work? I haven't
tried anything since b/c it's someone else's printer and I haven't been
there since.

How did you know there was a conflict on the port?

Thanks!
