Please help me!! I have an Epson Stylus C86 and it won't print! The paper
goes through like it is printing but there is no text or ink on the pages.
We had the ink cartridges out for about a week before we put new ones in so I
think maybe the ink dried up on the nozzles or something. Well that is what
someone told me. They also told me that running the cleaning several times
would solve the problem but I have run it about 30 times and nothing seems to
be helping. Is there anything else that I can do to clean the nozzles? Or
something else that needs to be done.

Shannon - this post should be directed to the comp.periphs.printers
newsgroup. There is an individual named Arthur Entlich who has prepared a
manual on cleaning Epson printheads. If you email him he will email back
his cleaning manual. No charge and no spam. He's just a super helpful
person who has assisted lots of people in getting their printers to work
after being clogged. Just send him the exact info you posted here so he
knows what the problem might be. His email address is
e-printerhelp(at)mvps(dot)org . Replace the at and dot when emailing to
Arthur.

Generally, with Epson printers you can run a series of three cleanings and
they get progressively more powerful. Then the cycle starts over with more
cleanings. You should not have run any more than two sets of three for a
total of six cleanings. After that you really have to use cleaning
techniques that are not documented by Epson. Get Arthur's manual and see if
that will clean up the clogs. AND - with any inkjet printer (other than
those that have a printhead built into the ink tank) do not leave tanks out
of the printer except for the extremely short time it takes to change them.
It is also imperative that you use inkjet printers frequently. If they sit
idle for an extended period of time they will also clog.

Shannon, in addition to Burt's excellent response, did you remove the
tape from the print heads of the new cartridges before inserting them?
Quite often people do not remove them and the printer will not print.
Also, does this printer have a "test page" feature to print? You can also
use a Q-tip to clean inside the printer where the cartridges sit, wet them
with a small smount of rubbing alcohol to clean the seats then dry them
with the other end of the q-tip.
