I went to that article but when I type in the thread it comes up with an
error .

I must be doing some thing wrong . I tried five times with no luck.

Marc

What are you typing and what error? Examples;

expand D:\i386\config.nt_ drive_letter:\system_root\system32\config.nt

expand D:\i386\autoexec.nt_ drive_letter:\system_root\system32\autoexec.nt

expand D:\i386\command.co_ drive_letter:\system_root\system32\command.com

(This assumes your CD-Rom drive letter is D: If not substitute the correct
drive letter)

Sorry, those examples should have been;
Also note that there is a space between _ %

expand D:\i386\config.nt_ %systemroot%\system32\config.nt

expand D:\i386\autoexec.nt_ %systemroot%\system32\autoexec.nt

expand D:\i386\command.co_ %systemroot%\system32\command.com

(This assumes your CD-Rom drive letter is D: If not substitute the correct
drive letter.)

Thanks Dave
that is what I am trying to type.
Do I type it has you have it has my cdrom is D drive
expand D:\i386\config.nt_ %systemroot%\system32\config.nt

expand D:\i386\autoexec.nt_ %systemroot%\system32\autoexec.nt

expand D:\i386\command.co_ %systemroot%\system32\command.com

In what you posted the %systemroot% is that what I type?

Thanks heaps as I have never done any of this DOS stuff before

Marc

Yes type exactly as shown.

%systemroot% is a system variable that always resolves to the "windows"
directory no matter what it is called and no matter what the drive letter.
