Hey folk...computer dummy here.

I just bought a new PC with Vista Home Premium and have been regretting it
ever since. I love the new look, but it has been a nightmare to get it set up
and running properly. I cannot seem to get my printer to install. (Brother
MFc210C)

I've tried to install the driver form Brother that was compatible with
Vista, but it won't recognise the printer during the installation process.
When I'm prompted to plug in the USB, it says "unidentified device" & "
couldn't find diver software for your device`

Obviously it recognizes there is new hardware plugged in...it just wont
recognize what it is.

I`ve updatied Vista also to no avail.

The last thing I want to do is buy a new OS or a new printer....can some one
please offer some adviceÉ before I throw the CPU out the windowÉ (And why on
earth do my question marks come up as a funny É)

I'd suggest that you uninstall the drivers, then start again. Brother
publishes a procedure and tools here:

Thanks much for your reply. I have downloaded/installed that driver and
uninstall tool several times. What happens is it installs to a point. It
prompts me to plug in the printer and then won`t recognize it...so basically
gives me no choice but to abort the installation.

Then, you need to contact Brother technical support for help with your
driver issue.
