Hi
For some time I've have trouble printing from my two HP printers, a LaserJet
1200 and an OfficeJet G85. Both are connected through USB and have not
ealier caused any problems.
But for a couple of months now I have not been able to print on any of my
printers.
When I start a print job from some windows application (MS Word and Notepad)
a popup box tells me that the printer job failed without further error
information. When I check the printers job queue, the failed jobs are listed
as failed.
I checked the USB connections - the two printers share an USB hub which is
connected to my pc. This hub has external power supply and works fine with
other USB devices I connect to it. I've tried to connect the printers
directly to my pc and this does not change anything - same error. Printer
drivers and software has been removed from the pc under the skilled support
of HP and has been reinstalled - same result.
When I check my event log after a failed attempt to print, I see the
following:
===
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Print
Event Category: None
Event ID: 6161
Date: 11/09/2005
Time: 15:26:14 AM
User: (XP Home client name)\default
Computer: (XP Home client name)
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 6161 ) in Source ( Print ) cannot be found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be
able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and
Support for details. The following information is part of the event:
[document name], default, [printer name], NT EMF 1.008, 131072, 0, 2, 0,
\\[client host name], 1326 (0x52e), .
===
I have Norton Antivirus software installed on my pc, so in case this could
mess up things I have tried to connect my printers to my laptop. Same
operating system - and exactly the same error occurs!
What is wrong? Does a windows security patch disturb my system or?
Best regards,
Benny
