Hi, I decided I'd like my trusty old HP710c to work on my XP Pro machine the
other day. It only has a parallel connection, so I plugged it in, and off
went XP doing its driver bit. It then complained it could not find a file. I
told it it was looking at the wrong CD for the installation disc, at which
time it finished and the printer seems to work.

However, if I unplug it and use it elsewhere, then when I put it back it
says its found new hardware and from then on every boot up its starting the
new hardware wizard and doing 5the install again.

Any pointers to what is going on here?

Thanks.

"...I plugged it in, and off went XP doing its driver bit..."

The problem is that you should install the driver from the CD before you
plug it in. Doing it your way let XP have its own way, finding the
wrong driver, etc.

Go to this site and follow the instructions for correcting the bad
install and doing a correct install. http://www.coribright.com/Windows/
