Printer that was installed is lost

I had a cannon printer installed for over a year. Now it has disappeared and I am unable to install it again. XP will not reconize any printer drivers that I have installed.(Operation cannot be completed) What is going on?
 
Jenny, is it a USB, Parallel hookup. I would disconnect the printer from
the computer. Restart the computer let WinXP
loadup and then shutdown. Reconnect the printer. Before doing this look in
Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs for
any Canon Printer software and uninstall it. I would then reinstall the
Canon software and drivers before reconnecting
the printer.
