Hello,

I have this strange problem on one of our servers.
2 printers on the server stay on the 'opeing' status, instead of 'ready'.
We can print to the printers from other pc's without any problem, but when I
try to print smth on the particular server, it freezes for about 1 min, and
then it starts printing.

I already deleted the (network) printer, reinstalled it, rebooted the w2k
server, notthing helped !

Any other idea's????

I am having the same issue on a shared printer (Ithaca Series 80 Pro
attached to an XP Pro machine at a remote store, but printing from
W2K Server Terminal Server (Server1) at our corporate office over
DSL/VPN network. The printer was working fine for 1 1/2 years, but i
April, 2004, it would stay on "Opening" status for awhile when viewin
in the W2K printers window. While showing "Opening", it doesn't print
Then all of a sudden it will go to "Ready" again and work fine for
long time.

The changes we made on our network are:
July, 2002, shared printer installed and working fine.
Jan., 2004, 2nd store opened, adding network traffic to DSL VPN.
4/21/04, updated Server1 to W2K from SP3 to SP4, and ran Window
Update
4/22/04, installed Symantec Corporate edition on a separate serve
(Server2), AntiVirus client on Server1
4/26/04, first case on shared printer not working on from Server1

I suspect something timing out on the network. For testing,
installed a 2nd identical Ithaca Series 80 Pro printer on a JetDirec
device at that same location, bypassing the local XP machine. Wheneve
the 1st printer has problems and shows "Opening", the 2nd printer o
the JetDirect shows "Ready", so in our case, it may be a combination o
a slow network trying to print remotely through the shared printer o
the XP machine.

If anyone has seen this issue and found a resolution, I woul
appreciate the help.

David
