Printer Spooling

I have an old HP Deskjet 540 printer that still works very
well and is all I really need. My question is about how my
system slows down to molasses when I send something to the
printer. No multitasking! No matter how many or how few
windows I have open, everything stops while I print.

I have W2K and I increased my RAM to 384 MB, but I didn't
see even a small improvement. My hardware is a Dell
Optiplex GX110 (1000 MHz). I have two large hard drives
with extra room. What can I do to spool my print requests
so they don't stop my system?

Hi Darlene:
I the printer properties you can set the printer to not spool - to print
directly to the printer.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested, but that
was worse. Instead of molasses, my system came to a
standstill until printing was finished. Thanks anyway...
