Paul,
thanks for your suggestion. The printer is HP Laserjet
4600DN . I will update the drivers etc. and see if that
helps and will keep this list informed.
thanks
Kishore

Kishore,
It must be something that Excel is doing to interact with
the printer
driver. However, it is probably that all Excel is doing
is specifying a
color setting.
I wouldn't bother looking at Excel. I would replace the
printer driver. It
seems a source of instability. Try upgrading the driver
using the
manufacturer's web site. Try switching to a simpler
driver of the similar
kind. For example, instead of a HP Laserjet 5Si driver,
use a HP Laserjet
driver from the Windows installation.
Paul
well, it truns out that problem I was having on printer
server's print spooler service getting shut down was
because of one user trying to print a specific excel
docuement in color (same document when printed in Grey
scale works fine). Any other excel document when printed
in color or Grey scale works fine.
Any clue where to look in this excel doc. ? How to avoid
such instances in future ?
thanks
Kishore

Subject: Printer Spooler service stops working
after
every 10-15 jobs
Date: Tue, 8 Jun 2004 11:53:55 -0700
Windows 2000 server/SP4 , applied KB article 880550
for
printer spooler problem , but still have the same
problem
where the spooler service stops after 10-15 jobs are
printed. The problem started happening on its own
past
few
weeks . The same setup has been working right for
about
more than a year or so. Nothing changed.
Any clues ? Any where else can I look in for logs ?
thanks
Kishore

I would recommend the following troubleshooting
steps
in dealing with your
spooler issue:
1. Run the Cleanspl utility from the Windows Server
2003 Resource Kit
(
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
FamilyID=9D467A69-57FF-4AE7
-96EE-B18C4790CFFD&displaylang=en)
(This utility works on XP, 2000, and 2003)
2. Install only in-box drivers for the printers
needed
when possible (or
else try to obtain updated printer drivers from
vendor
website)
3. Remove third-party port monitors as per Q260142
(NOTE: Do not remove
the
HP Master Monitor if it exists, make sure it is
upgraded to version 4.2)
4. Disable the loading of any but the default
(WinPrint) by deleting their
respective sub-keys from the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Prin
t
\
Environments\Windo
ws NT x86\Print Processors
