I installed my Brother MFC9700 on this Vista Home Premium with Service Pack
1. Since this new HP machine does not have a parallel port I used the USB
port. The printer works fine but when I click to print it takes 30 seconds
or more to start printing. I don't have spool selected but is there some
other item I have missed to start printing direct to the printer.

At the beginning of every print job, or just after the printer has gone into
stand-by mode. It does take some time to heat up the drum.

I had completely forgotten about that, thanks. Now that I remember I had
the same with a couple of other laser printers until I turned that mode off.
I had thought maybe that using the USB with this older printer may been part
of it, but you are quite right, a laser has to heat up.
