installed home network with laptop home XP and PC win98se
i can see the shared folders on each, how do I use the
printer connected to the PC. Do I have to install the
program that came with the printer on both (allready
installed on the PC) even tough only one is realy
connected to it

Just share the printer on the PC that's it's connected to. Make sure File
and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is enabled in the properties of
your connection.

file and printer sharing for microsoft networks is
enabled in the properties of my connection, I can see and
use the files but can not use the printer. is it perhaps
because i have not installed a printer on my laptop

You don't physically have to attach the printer to the laptop. Just click
on Start---Printers and Faxes---Click on Add a Printer and follow the
on-screen wizard. It should automatically detect your printer if you have
it shared. To verify that, go to your printer in Printer and Faxes on the
desktop, right click on it and select Sharing and Security and make sure
Share this Printer is checked.

Post back results.
