We have 4 computers on a dsl modem/ router but we
want to add a printer server so that any of the computers
can access the printer whenever they want to. We use
a Bellsouth dsl with 4 port caymen router which is located
in the downstairs utility closet.

I think the printer server will have to be close to the printer
location since it uses a parallel cable to connect. We have
many patch connections with a jumper cable system. Is
the printer server hooked into that system just like a computer
but also connected to the computer??

And are there any recommendations for a printer server that
can work with an small office??

Thanks

is this 'modem/router' just so the pc's can gain internet
access, or is there also a hub which lets computers access
each other? can you share files between computers now or
see the other computers by double clicking the 'network
icon'? a easy solution would be to hook up and install
the printer to a computer with a usb or parallel cable and
then 'share' it. after you do this you need to add this
printer on your other computers by using the 'add printer'
method and browsing to that computer. print servers are
typically used on a network with a centralized server and
the print server is connected to a local wall jack which
is wired back to the hub.
