i dont know what i am doing wrong! i am trying to share a printer between my
2 desk tops running xp on both. i ran the network set up on both computers
and can see that #1 that has the printer attached by usb is set up to share
however on #2 when i go to add printers it can not find the one i am using.
i dont even know if they actually "networked" properly. this is frustrating.
i have looked through all different posts but i must be missing something.

The printer need to be installed correctly on the second PC (does not
have the printer.)

Use "My Network Places" ---> Show ... computer near me so as to see
if both PCs are listed. If not, check firewall and antivirus settings
so the "File / Printer shareing" is permitted thru.

Ping test:

On each PC do

Start
RUN:
cmd
ipconfig
and write down the IP address (ex: 192.168.1.1)

Then on the other PC (each) on th cmd "screen" ping the address of
the other PC.

As for Norton, besides completely uninstalling it, you need to:

1) Create firewall rule so the file / printer sharing is permitted to
acces thru this

2) In the Antivirus module, you need to change the access permission
so that the NetBIOS name resolution is not blocked.

Thanks! I did get it to finally work, however the Norton firewall on pc
#1(the one the printer is attached),if on, pc#2 cant print and there are
rules set to allow the sharing. Is there anything I can do to not have to
keep turning the firewall off and on?

Yes, you need to configure the firewall to allow the "File/Printer
sharing" thru it. Then, the printing will always work.
