printer sharing problem

I am a novice user and need help with my printer. I have my printer sharing
with my laptop but for some reason I cannot print now. There is a black check
beside the printer icon and my lap top is getting the message that it is not
connected. I have checked all connections and restarted both computers with
no luck
 
my printer is connected to the desktop and my laptop is connected to the
desktop via wireless through my internet provider. Both computers see each
other I think or I dont think I would have access to the internet. How do I
tell for sure?
 
Are both PCs in the same Workgroup?

Double click on My Network Places on one PC and see if it can find the peer
to peer workgroup.....
 
I do not see the peer to peer workgroup. How do I get that reconnected
