Printer Sharing From XP to Vista

I have a HP dv6-1245dx Laptop and a desktop computer running xp home edition. The canon printer that i have is connected to the desktop.I turned on file and printer sharing on both, made sure everything was unblocked in the firewall, and it still doesn't work. The desktop can see this computer but cant access anything on it and the laptop cant see anything but itself and the wireless router. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
