Hello!

I have just bought a Dlink DPR 1260 Print server. I have one computer
with XP and one with 98 SE. However I have just realized that the print
server doesn't work with 98.

Could I connect a USB hub directly to the printer and have one USB
cable going to my 98 SE computer and one to the print server?

Thanks so much

No that won't work. Try to determine why the 98 box won't
print (I don't know)... is the correct driver installed?
Did that system ever work with this printer direct
connected? If either system will always be on you could
connect the printer and network share it.

Yes, they have printed directly connected but I would like to use the
print server since it's must faster to print through there. The D-Link
box said it was only compatible for Win2k, XP machines so I guess my
only option will be to upgrade. My printer has only 1 USB port so I
won't be able to connect two devices to it.

Thanks again

I browsed the online user guide. I may not work because W98 doesn't
support UPnP universal plug and play. Did you try configuring a
W98 network printer using the static ip address of the print server?

For instance, \\192.168.0.23\dlinkprinterqueue

Check MS knowledge base for UPnP for W98 and
network printing

I read you can install UPnP on W98 using ICS on XP.

I've search the Microsoft site but couldn't find it. Do you know how I
can install UPnp on Win 98? Thanks so much

I wonder if you can share it from the XP box, then have the
'98 print to the XP share.

As Kony says. IIRC, You have to install ICS on XP, format an ICS
floppy which includes UPnP for the W98. Install ICS on W98 from the
floppy.
