I have been using an Epson Stylus Photo RX510 for some time but after
a motherboard was replaced I can't get it to print from the computer.
If I copy photos onto the camera's memory card and plug it into the
printer the photos are printed ok. I have tried uninstalling it and
re-installing from scratch but it still won't print. The scanner works
normally. In device managerunder disk drives it is an Epson Stylus USB
storage device. Under imaging devices it is Epson Stylus Photo RX510.

How can I stop XP detecting it as a disk drive?

Thanks
Mike

Don't install it with a memory card in it. Also it IS a mass storage device
(card reader). Make sure that the USBPRINT port is getting installed and
that the printer is using the correct port and driver, from the printer
properties window.

I plugged a card into the printer for the first time a few days ago,
months after the problem started. In fact I tried it to get around the
problem with printing.

In the printer properties it has the box ticked for Virtual printer
port forUSB Epson Stylus.......

remove any references of the printer/mass storage from device manager.
take note of any hardware in 'other devices' and remove those also.
Remove any software related to the printer from add/remove programs.

you can also remove the INF's that reference the printer before rebooting.

reinstall according to manual...some printers want the thing plug in before
software install, others don't, you know the drill.

can you try the printer in another machine?

remove all other USB devices while installing the printer, I had a scanner /
Epson scenario not long ago that prevented my 777i from installing properly
while the scanner was in the USB port.

I have tried removing everything I could find that mentioned the
printer before rebooting and installed the software before connecting
the printer, but I didn't remove all other USB drevices. I will try
that next.
