We've found that printers queue's built on 2003 server can't resolve the
default paper type of a document. Even if letter is the default in the printer
props, it will want to print an XLS on legal. The same doc won't do this on
either NT 4.0 or 2000 server. It's also regardless of printer mfg. Anyone got
any clues how to fix this? TIA.

Try a visit to the printer manufacturers web site for an updated
PCL driver. The ones shipped with win2k3 are mini drivers
in most cases lack printer specific configuration options
anyway.

where are you setting the defaults? The client or server side? and
do the clients have the rights to define their own prefences on the
local machine (assuming you have taken the time to troubleshoot the
problem using the client's local settings)...

I encountered a similar problem on one of my networks in the past and
later realized (that due to my own neglegence) there was another tab
on the server that offered additional printer settings (one defined
how the server would handle its own print jobs and the other tab/radio
button defined how the clients would print)...

I imagine you probably haven't made the same mistake as I, but just in
case... take a peek.
