I have a HP DeskJet 895Cxi and a week ago the yellow stopped working so I just thought it was out of ink so got it refilled but now with the new ink cartridge it is still doing the same thing, not printing any yellow. I have cleaned the cartridge and the cartridge head in the printer but nothing. When I print a test page no yellow what so ever comes out.

I think there is a problem between the printer and the cartridge and I have just noticed that 1 of the gold connector heads on the cartridge holder in the printer has been forced inwards and can no longer touch the cartridge. Now I am not sure if this is stopping any yellow coming out or it is meant to be like that.

If that is the problem I don’t see any ways of easily fixing it and I do think a new printer may be in order. This one is old but any advice on how I can save it would be very helpful.

Thanks

Are the print heads and cartridges both the same thing in this printer? It sounds like that gold connector is probably the problem, is there any way you can force it back out?

Sorry Ian don't understand what you mean by that question.

No i can not force the gold thing out it is fully jamed in, i can't even feel it when i try to touch it.

What Ians saying is aren't the printheads integrated with the cartridge with HP.

Just looked at my HP 960c, and can see what you mean by the gold connector heads - think you could be right in thinking thats where the problem is - they should all be protruding and touching the connectors on the cartridge.

Oh yes, sorrey, yes they are.

Well sounds like a new printer for me, oh well there not that expensive.

Anyone recommend a good one?

I just got a HP Photosmart 7960 from Dabs for all inclusive price of £122.00, it's great.

Genuine almost half price reduction. Don't kow if they have any left now, but I'm well pleased with it :)

The one Flops recommends is a good one if you can consider it. You have first hand information from a user, go for it.

Yes I too have the HP all in one, it is a very good printer, though setting it up can be a pain if you want to use the fax machine feature through dail up. Also have you called HP yet?? How old is the printer -- you may be able to send it in for repair in the first year and only pay the shipping and then after that I think it can get a bench repair for pretty cheap. Its on you, depending on your funds I'd problay go for the new printer is I had the cash, If you don't and just need to get by a lil longer you may want to call HP to get a repair quote -- So I guess the question is, Do you want a new printer?

Thanks for all the advice so far, I am 90% sure that i am going to be buying a new printer but i suppose i should of said what kind of printer i was looking for.

I don't need to have one which scanes as i have a scaner already and i do not need one which prints photos as i very rarely print photos. My first throught was to by an Epson, as they are good quality and the catriages are cheap. I was looking at the Epson C46.

I am not looking to spend that much money on it as i only use for school work.

Thanks

Check HP 5740 it is not very expensive and a really good one, one of my staff member uses it and it is giving great service.

Epson?

Be it on your own head then, how can I put this? I don't think Epson are particularly too good.

And that's being polite.

I once bought one that was supposedly a Computer Magazine's 'Best Buy' and it was crap.

They are cheap and nasty. Granted, they have made a few good models, but they've all been in the higher price bracket.

In my experience, HP sustain a regular good quality across all price bands. But, it's your money, so be my guest...

And if you're still listening, stay away from Lexmark as well ;)

LOL

I am always lisening and i hear you loud and clear. Epson is another manufactuer to add to my list 'Don't Touch' and Lexmark.

Thanks for the warning :thumb:

Haha Epson, you know if you don't mind the 5min to 5hour warm up, and delayed printing, as well as ink jests getting clogged if you don't use the printer for a month or two then get an epson. If any of those mentioned things bother you, then don't get on your call. (have owned Epson 300, 500, and the marvelous 800-- Why because I kept bringing them in for repairs and they kept giving me upgraded models)
Then I had a roomate in college whos paraents got him and Epson 1000 somthing or other, I tild him to return it or exchange it, and we argued for two weeks. So on day 96 that thing finaly broke down.

oh yea, compaqu makes a pretty decent deskjet, as well as cannon. Fairly cheap too. But I think HP takes it, they make some really inexpensive printers and (cross my fingers) have had one for more than a year adn all good.

Epson 'C' series are really crap ...

Lexmark have just brought out a fantastic printer ... absolutely brilliant for photographic work.

... IT CANNOT CONNECT TO A COMPUTER.

I'm not "flaming" Lexmark ... but who in their right mind builds a printer that ...

... does not, will not, cannot connect to a PC

I'll flame Lexmark :D Come on, I mean, really, they're tosh.

Only printers I'll entertain are HP, Canon, Brother Laser Printers and Samsung Laser colour printers.
