I have recently gone to Windows XP, now my printer won't
work. I have an 1992 HP LaserJet IIP plus printer, which
worked fine on Windows 98, but not with XP. The HP help
desk stated that it was a Microsoft support problem and
there is nothing they can do.

Is that true? Is there any software that will allow my
printer to work with XP.

I'm not a fan of MS but I don't think it's their responsibility to provide
printer drivers for all printer manufacturers. They have some drivers that
have been ported over the years. It's the printer manufacturers job to write
the drivers for the various operating systems (98,W2k,NT,XP...). You have an
old printer and generally manufacturers don't support products forever. If
the manufacturer won't help, then you may have to buy a new printer.

The HP IIp plus is supported on XP. The driver is on the XP CD
"HP LaserJet IIP Plus" = HPLJ2PP.GPD
,HPHP_LaserJet_IIP_Pl3A5D,HP_LaserJet_IIP_Plus

Since the printer does not support Plug and Play you will have to use the
Add Printer Wizard to install it and manually select the driver. If you
have already completed this task and writing to this printer still fails you
may need to change the parallel BIOS on the computer. Try an AT or Bidi
setting (the names change depending on the which BIOS you have.
