Try running a cleaning cycle or two using the software. It seems that you
may have a clogged jet or two.

If that doesn't work check your ink levels to see that you aren't running
out of ink.

If you have a nozzle test on your printer run it and see the results, this
should give you an insight as to cleaning. Check the ink levels in the
carts, if a couple of cleans don't do the trick and you have plenty of ink
in the carts remove the carts and gently tap them down wards on a hard
surface, remember Gently. See how that goes and get back to the group with
more info on your printer.

Is this a laser printer? White streaks are a common laser problem,
if white streaks occur with inkjets then colours are usually
screwed up as well.

You'll need to be more detailed in your posting to get an answer, since
the model and brand will tell us a lot about what printing technology is
involved. Your description could be for a laser printer, an inkjet
printer, or others. The brand and type of printing method is critical
to understand not only what's wrong, but how to go about fixing it.

For instance, let's say you have an inkjet printer... If it is an HP or
Lexmark, or Brother, you would use one set of techniques, if it is a
Canon, (depending upon how old a model) there is another and if an
Epson, yet another set of methods. Also, do the streaks go across the
page left to right or from top to bottom? Are the streaks in all the
colors (assuming your printer prints in color) or just one color?

So, if you want anyone to help, you need to provide some more information.

If all you can tell us is "my tooth hurts" don't expect more than a
reply that says "go see your dentist" ;-). For now, all I can tell you
is, "go see someone who evaluates and repairs printers", but I'm sure
you were hoping for more than that.

Hi Jan,

You do realize that I am going to have to hate you if your advice fixes
the problem for our OP, considering I just asked that more information
be provided before going further ;-)

All the best,

Art

Sorry I didn't give more info....This is a canon bjc 240 printer....Thax
for all the advice...But,still have the problem....Think I will have to
get a new printer...

It's usually unnecessary to go to that extreme. As Art suggested earlier,
write to him for his manual. He's included 90% of the probable causes of
most non-printing problems and how to fix them.

His address

e-printerhelp at mvps.org substitute the @ for "at" in the address

Did you run any cleaning cycles. Can you print a nozzle check?

Oh well. Sometimes fast and dirty gets the job done. It's akin to having a
rotten cold for two weeks and so after finally making the appointment to see
the doctor the day I go I'm feeling better.

Well, with a printer that uses cartridges with built-in heads like
those old Canons- all that would be needed is a new cartridge. If the
original poster can live with only black, the BJC-240 uses the BC-02
cartridge. Refilled ones might still be available where he lives at
less than 10 dollars (Canadian) each.

Hi Diane,

I believe the BJC printer line used a ink cartridge which included a
connected print head. This means that if you can't get the cartridge
going properly (more on that in a minute) you should be able to improve
the image results by buying a new or refilled cartridge. It is not
likely you need a new printer.

The cartridge may just be running out of ink, but in case it is
something else, try removing the cartridge and check the contacts on
both the cartridge and the printer to make sure they are clean. If not,
clean them carefully with a cotton swab slightly wet with water. Then
dab both dry with a paper towel, reinstall and see if that fixes the
problem.

It that doesn't work or the contacts are clean looking, before replacing
the cartridge, remove it and with a very soft lintfree cloth (something
that you won't need for other use) soaked in warm water and rung out,
fold it a few times and place the cloth on a plastic sheet (like a
plastic bag), on a table. Then place the cartridge on the cloth with
the head area (the part that the ink comes out of) downward onto the
cloth. Press the cartridge up and down a bit, and very gently skim it
across the cloth. You should see ink come off onto the cloth. Then try
the cartridge in the printer again. If that does not resolve the
problem, add a bit of ammoniated window cleaner (like Windex with
Ammonia D) onto the cloth and do the same thing.

If none of this works, you can just buy a new or refilled cartridge,
which will probably resolve the problem.
