Printer prints test page of assorted coloured blocks after print d

I have troubleshooted with HP customer services. Eventually they sent me out
a new printer but I am still having the same problems. Aafter the printer has
printed my document it automatically prints test pages of black and coloured
blocks. Don't know what to do. Please Help!

What model printer?
If it is a multifunction device with a message screen on the control panel does
it give any message like "perform Head Alignment"?
Does the page that prints have a series of green ticks down the left hand side?

Hi Tony,
The printer is an HP Deskjet 5940, The only icon I can find
in the control panel related to the printer is "Printers and Faxes" which
shows HP 5900 set as default (status ready)another HP 5900 (status offline)
and Microsoft Office (status ready). I have noticed green ticks on the pages,
(although not for a while as I haven't let these pages print out fully, so as
to save ink,) and so they may be appearing later on down the page, but aren'
being given the opportunity to print.

What you are seeing is the automatic alignment page. It prints once when
the cartridges are changed. If you interrupt the page it will be
automatically scheduled again at the end of the next print job. Load plain
paper and let the page complete and it should not repeat until the next time
you change print cartridges.
