Printer Prints Only Hypertext

Boss suddenly can not print to a Lexmark Z25 (from a Dell Optiplex
745). Printing a Word .doc produces only that text on a page that is
hypertext ( ! ). Printing from Notepad does not work. In all cases the
printer spits out paper. I've tried printing from the command prompt,
and I get no copy or paper feed (assuming I am using the command
prompt properly ... it has been a long time since I used the command
prompt).

Any ideas what the problem might be?

(Problem began when Boss tried to print some cut-and-paste Power Point
stuff. It would not print, and she's not been able to print anything
since.)

Thank you people.

try:
at a cmd prompt:

net stop spooler
net start spooler

It sounds like a document get corrupted in the print queue.
You do not say whether this printer is connected directly to the PC.

you can also use regedit and remove the printer here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers

run the above commands, then reinstall the printer driver.

The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules or
took a few liberties with our female party guests. We did.

But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for
the behavior of a few sick, perverted individuals.

If you do, shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system?

And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this
an indictment of our educational institutions in general?

I put it to you, Greg.

Isn't this an indictment of our entire American society?

Well you can do what you want to us, but we won't sit here
and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!

do you have black ink still full?
if no black ink then it could print the blue hypertext only .

Christopher-

I've seen similar problems when a print job contained some characters
that were interpreted as printer commands. They inadvertently changed
something in the printer.

For example, if you normally used the printer's proprietary command
language and it was changed to accept PostScript or HP PCL, it might
print something that resembled hypertext. In these cases, resetting the
printer would usually clear the problem.

Can you access the printer's web page over the network? You would use
its IP address as a URL in your browser, if the printer was set up that
way. Accessing the printer this way should let you see how it is set up
and let you fix any problems.

However, the change might have occurred in the printer driver on your
boss's computer. If so, it might help to re-install the printer on her
machine.
