Printer Preferences

In control panel, printers and faxes, I right click on a printer and select
preferences. A window appears saying, "Operation could not be competed."
This happens with any printer I try. i'm using XP. I am unable to change
any preferences for any printer.

Also when I go to print a doc and select the printer and then click
preferences nothing happens at all. The preferences widow does not open nor
is there even any error message.

Additionally, I have updated all printer drivers. Still no preferences.
