When trying to use "stand by" or "hibernate" modes, I get
the message that "printer port logical interface" device
is being used by another application. Does anyone have
an idea which software/hardware uses that driver - the
printer, the video card, etc.?

How about if you tell us what is connected to your computer instead of us
trying to guess.

I have a printer (Canon BJC-2010) directly connected to
parallel port (and have since April 2003. Had just
recently upgraded the BIOS, ATI Radeon 9000 video card
and modem and Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.

The printer probably has a "Toolbox" feature which monitors the ink level,
this is bidirectional communication which the system sees as in use. This
may be the cause of your problem. If you don't need this feature you can
uninstall it or disable it. It usually loads an icon in the systray. Canon's
used to be difficult to disable, but I have not tried in a few years. HTH
