Printer Plugged into Router

Hello,

I Just Bought a Epson All in one printer. right now i am
using a dlink wireless router to connect the computer to
the dsl and i have the printer pluged in to one of the
desktops now i was wondering if it were possibel to get a
cord to connect the printer to the router via a ethernet
connection that way i could use the printer from my
laptop even if the desktop is off via the network cards

Does your printer support Ethernet connections? IF not, what you want to do
is not possible. In almost every case (every case I have heard of),
printers support parallel, USB, or serial connections, but not Ethernet.

It's possible that a few high-end laser printers may support Ethernet.
 
Unless the router has a parallel port or a USB port, then it cannot function
as a print server.. UNLESS the printer itself has an ethernet port. If it
does have an ethernet port, you can connect it to the router in just the
same way you connect a PC... the DHCP of the router should allocate it a
TCP/IP address.

Hello,

In this case I would suggest that you purchase a print
server (hp makes very good ones). Attach the print server
to the parallel port of the printer and the ethernet port
to the router and make sure that you set the printer up
with an ip and away you go.
 
The printer does not have a parrell port just a usb type b port but that is
a good idea thanks you
