Whenever I try to print on my Dell 1700n printer, I get the message "Printer Offline", even if I have just changed it to online, even if I have cleared out the printing queue, even if I have rebooted, even if I uninstall and reinstall the driver, even if I switch to another USB port, etc., etc. And my printer, which prints its own test page ok, does not print anything from my PC.
Thanks for your help. I have followed your instructions on completely removing drivers, etc.; but the message Printer Offline/No Toner Detected appears whenever I try to print, even if I have clicked "Printer Online" and the printer is listed as "Ready". I suspect the problem arises from Dell's software that ensures one only buys replacement cartridges from Dell. In this case, the old cartridge (which still has plenty of toner), a new unauthorized one, and a new Dell one all fail to print--except that the unauthorized one prints test pages when activated by a button on the printer. I would appreciate any further suggestions.
