printer not working

When I first installed the driver, it sent a bunch of
different error messages, and wouldn't recognize the LPT
drives at all.

Now, I have an LPT 2, LPT 3 that say they are working
correctly, (LPT 1 has never been detected). When I send
a print job, it sits forever, and then sends back an "Out
of Paper" message even though there's tons of paper in
the machine.

What should I do?

Try a complete uninstall and reinstall of the printer.

Ensure you have XP drivers... ones written for Windows9x/ME will NOT work in
XP.
