Printer Not Connected - DeskJet 673C

The printer just stopped working. Wires are
connected. Power is there. Printer 'jumps' when I send it
the first job after install (grabs a sheet of paper and
indexes it). Then I get the "Printer Not Connected"
message. Thanks in Advance - Bill
 
I couldn't find Deskjet 673c on HP website.
How you connect PC and Printer?
(USB, or Parallel ?)

how is your lpt port status?
do you have any error in event viewer?
do you run any utility on back ground?
can you print by self test mode?

can you post detailed infromation of your PC?


If you have Scan jet they have problem with that

It uses a parallel cable.

This error is almost certainly coming from HP's printing software, not the
operating system.

I belive changing the printer port mode between epp/ecc/unidirectional in
the system BIOS might solve the issue. If not, I'd suggest you call HP for
further support.

lpt port seems OK <Start> <Settings> <Printers>.

Back ground hasn't changed: Norton & Yahoo IM.

PC hasn't changed either: W2K (5.0.2195 SP4)H/W: VT8363 by
VIA-Technologies Inc, Processor is X86 family 6 model 4
Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~900Mhz, Award Bios model 6.00PG,
Windows Directory C:\WINNT, Phys Mem 523,760 KB, (Avail
92968 KB), Virt Mem 2,586,896 KB (avail 1,840,712),Page
File Space: 2,063,136, RAID-2, Sound Blaster, R & RW CD
Roms.

Event viewer shows re-installs but nothing for failures to
find the printer.

HP 672 DeskJet has no self test facility.

I couldn't find online manual anf info for that.
so you can ask HP to how to perform self test.


Do you have any status light on printer?

can you check your Printer status and section Cannot locate printer

also check LPT port status in device manager, not in printers.

how long is your printer cable?
(If cable is longer than 12 foot it is possible to happen)
